School of Rock

The Lactic Report,  7.02.11  School of Rock
Sandbags XVII
Care to join us, Mr. Schneebly ?

Yeah, sure.

Did I say that correctly ? "Schneebly" ?

Actually, it's "Schnayblay".

We were just discussing testing.  Which test do you find most effective, the TASS or the Wilson-Binet?

I say no testing, and I will tell you why, Joe.  I believe ...that the children are the future.  Now, you can teach them well, but you have gotta let them lead the way.  Let the children's laughter... just remind us how we used to be.  That's what I decided long ago.

Okay, the box score …

The Workout

Ring o’ Fire:  More new faces this week … so we kept it simple and HARD.  No toe-testing allowed; all FNGs enter the pool on the deep end.  A warm up run (3 laps) around Tapestry Field and a quick “check the block” stretch readied the group for the Ring.   Twelve intervals (aka ‘smokers’) with ladders of sandbag squats and push ups on either end (along with some nasty core work) Pele’ clearly had his doubts about this gathering of ‘ol folks’ so we increased the rpms early to remove any question marks this young soccer star may have had.   It was a painful lesson (mostly for the teacher) but the point was made.

The Dirty Details:  Following the Ring, we split into 2-man teams to run the gauntlet.  Five lanes of tire run, tire pull, tire flip, grapevine and suicides.  It hurt like a bloody blister.

Random grains of sand ….

Youth Movement:  More hardcore kids this week.  Amazing to see and they raise the bar for all of us.  What they may lack in overall strength, they easily make up for it with undying energy and enthusiasm.

IronGirl:  Would the real “Iron Girl” please stand up?  First we had Doc, then NOLA and Lil’ Miss.  Another new face this week fresh off her first triathlon and eager for another challenge.   I hope we delivered enough to keep you coming back <somehow I sort of think we did just fine>

Call Signs:   The best part of (f)NGs is coming up with a nickname.  Sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes it takes a week or two for something to stick … and sometimes it’s just so outrageous.  “Butt-Rub” took this ritual to a new level this week.  I don’t know the complete story behind his name and I’m not sure I want to …  Nevertheless, you own it mah brutha’!

Stars & Stripes:  We celebrated our nation’s birthday with a lot of red, white & blue.  Whoever took all the pics, please post them to the group.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & NEWS

10x Teaser
Reminder:  Smoke has FREE compression socks for everyone after your 10th Sandbags.  A few of you are close.  Stay motivated and keep coming out.

Mid-week training.  Morning runs (6:00 a.m.) are now on Mon-Wed-Fri leaving from Summergrove Golf Club; distance/pace varies (4-7 miles).  This is a base builder for Blue Ridge Relay.  We will slowly begin bumping up mileages in mid June.  You don’t have to be on the BRR team to run with this group.  Show up or contact me, KX or Buck if you want to run.

Be sure to invite a friend for next week.  May our group grow in numbers and in strength.

J-Delta
