Whatcha Puttin' Up?

The Lactic Report, 8.06.11, Sandbags XXII

Anton Chigurh: What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss.
Gas Station Proprietor: Sir?
Anton Chigurh: The most you ever lost. On a coin toss.
Gas Station Proprietor: I don't know. I couldn't say.
Anton Chigurh: Call it.
Gas Station Proprietor: Call it?
Anton Chigurh: Yes.
Gas Station Proprietor: For what?
Anton Chigurh: Just call it.
Gas Station Proprietor: Well, we need to know what we're calling it for here.
Anton Chigurh: You need to call it. I can't call it for you. It wouldn't be fair.
Gas Station Proprietor:  I didn't put nothin' up.
Anton Chigurh: Yes, you did. You've been putting it up your whole life you just didn't know it.

The Workout

Square Peg / Round Hole:  Routine breeds boredom; boredom leads to death …and I’ll have no one dying on my PT field (unless of course it’s exercise induced and if that ever happens, we’ll hang a banner in your honor).  So, a new layout for this week’s workout to keep it fresh.  Four corners of pain with speed runs between each.  Mtn Climbers, Cock Roach, Spartan Push-ups, Sandbag squats, Timber lunge, Timber press, Spider Crawl, Flutter kicks, Bar B-Q Ribs, Sandbag Pullovers, Timber Squat, Burpee, Kettle Ball Swing, Bode Millers, Carolina Lockdown and something else sadistic that I can’t remember.  Bottom line, it hurt like a bloody blister dipped in alcohol.

Following the Square, we knocked out pull-ups (20 reps for Corndog, our current U18 Champ) and tire run.

With our numbers growing, we split into two groups.  JD & Fly Gurl headed up Group #1; KX took the reins of Group #2.  The executive committee (do we have one of those?) is meeting this week to discuss possible alternatives to accommodate the continued growth (a nice problem to have).

Random grains of sand ….

Youth Movement:  The U18 crowd continues to grow and set the bar high for the group.  Off the chain in my book and I hope the trend continues with school starting back full-time.

18-25:  Fly Gurl represented the college crowd this week. Only a few more weeks before classes resume at UConn.  Sadly these numbers are dwindling fast as our older students return to campuses around the country.   You’ll be missed.  Promise to return during Christmas break; we’ll be out here in the wet & the cold.  Guaranteed!

Old Farts (25+):   Yup, that’s us.  Hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.  The good news is getting old doesn’t have to suck.  SANDBAGS is turning back the hands of time on plenty of us.  Waistlines are shrinking, faces are getting leaner, bad backs and knees are magically healing.  It’s amazing what can happen when we get off the couch.  Keep showing up and throwing up.  Max effort all the time.

Scatologically Speaking: Though no reported casualties, several large land-mines were spotted on Tapestry this week.   Sadly this has become the norm each Saturday.  It’s only a matter of time before someone does a back plant on nice big pile.  Suggestions anyone?

New Meat:  Expecting a few meat-heads (friends actually) from NRG to join us in the next few weeks.  Let’s welcome them with the intensity and ‘never quit’ attitude that defines this weekly workout.  If you have others to invite, bring them out.
